THE INJURIES WE TREAT
AC Joint Problems
Another part of the shoulder commonly injured is the acromioclavicular or AC joint. It is situated at the outside point of the collar bone where it attaches to the front of the shoulder blade. The joint is kept stable by a group of four ligaments, and these are most commonly damaged through a fall onto the tip of the shoulder, although in collision sports the force may come from an opponent.
The impact forces the shoulder blade down and stretches the ligaments away from the collar bone. Injury to the AC joint is called an AC separation.
